As many of you may know I have some difficulty hearing telephone messages
and one came in a while ago. I live alone and I can only have answer
Machine messages read to me when there is some one to transcribe them. By
chance my next door neighbour had just walked out my door and I called him
back to transcribe the message for me. I then had him to phone the local
Police for me as I though it was perhaps some form of veiled threat. The
message was from someone claiming to be from an organization called, "The
Society for Protection of English People from Racist Attacks".

It goes like this "I phoned to ask you why you are issuing racial abuse,
and Internet Stalking, of one of our members on the Internet. As I cannot
speak to you directly could you please stop issuing threats to people who
have recently been assaulted in Glasgow". I'm not sure if that is word for
word as I can't properly hear it myself.

The Police were taking this as a serious incident and were planning on
taking my laptop in to check the newsgroup messages but then decided their
computer section could access these archives. They did though copy the
phone message from the answer machine. When they traced the call and found
the phone used was a payphone, (0141 204 4805).

However as I have never racially abused anyone and have never even
mentioned racial attacks in Glasgow they now seem to think it is just a
stupid childish prank but warned there may be some danger as the person
had bothered to seek out my phone number, (not that I bothered hiding it).
They did, though say they will do their best to follow the matter up and
that if I get any more such calls to let them know, if for no other reason
as it is at least a waste of Police time and as such it carries a fine.
Anyway if there is no one to transcribe it I could be some time before
getting the message as the guy next door is not there all the time as he
is doing the house up before moving in. Actually I was quite pleased as
one of the two constables who called was a nice wee lassie constable, a
very pleasant person, who brightened up an otherwise dull evening.

Is not, (0141 204 4805), a Glasgow number? Not being able to really hear
the voice I can't say what the accent was but if whoever it was cares to
contact this number - 01383 318600 - I'm sure the Cowdenbeath Police
Station will be very pleased to make your complaint against me made
official as mine is against yours.

Bob, I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. It is the work of a coward,
no doubt. The payphone number suggests a location right in the centre of
Glasgow. Quite a few companies there use 0141 204 XXXX. It is entirely
possible the buffoon was caught on some CCTV camera. However, I hope this is
the last we hear of such.
