Start thinking sensibly. The terrorists have never lied. They have
done everything they said they would and during their operations have
demonstrated excellent planning and considerable expertise in
carrying
out their aims. They have delivered most of what they promised and
where they have not, it is mostly because of overwhelming odds
proving
too powerful for their limited resources to withstand.
Sadly, their enemy has failed to convince most of the thinking world
that its aims, claims and promises contain even the faintest element
of truth. In a nutshell, the US is normally assumed to be lying
because of the frequency with which it is seen to be doing so.
As Mao Dze Tung pointed out, one cannot win a war without engaging
the
hearts and minds of the people. I would say, having regard to the
number of conversations I have had with Iraqi friends regarding this
matter, that the average Iraqi is happy to have seen the last of
Saddam, but are extremely unhappy about the price that has had to be
paid to achieve that aim.
And of course they are quite correct, as any properly mounted
campaign
would have taken note of the salient details; like securing public
utilities and keeping them functioning, securing high-value buildings
like Baghdad's irreplaceable museums' contents; the artifacts of the
world's oldest continuous civilization; as well as moving immediately
to suppress any insurgent movements and to disarm local militias.
I have no doubt that the Pentagon had all those plans in place, but a
new factor entered the equation with the substantial interference by
White House appointees such as Donald Rumsfeld, who diverted the US
effort away from what should and would normally be automatic actions
by the general staff of any occupying army, including the US Armed
Forces.
The chance to win any hearts and minds was blown away by the US
military's contemptuous attitude towards the local civilians, many of
whom have died unnecessarily from US "friendly fire"; by the
revelations that torture was habitually practised and approved of by
the Administration; and by the constantly changing high command as
general after general resigned in protest at orders which they felt
compromised their reputations and laid them open to personal exposure
to international war crime courts which will seize known war
criminals
without permission from the offending country,. thereby ensuring that
war criminals can and will be seized to stand trial in the eyes of
international justice..
Highlander, I'm impressed.
A reasoned argument and well written.
And a refreshing departure from the usual "You are all Redneck, Black
Lynching, Neo Con Nazis" we hear so often around scs.
Go maith!
Thank you, Madra Dubh. I know that you are a man capable of
understanding completely what I spoke of above and I think that
despite its anachronistic sentiments, it is honour, truth and bravery
that will save your republic and our United Kingdom from coming apart
at the seams because people unfit to kiss the feet of Abe Lincoln or
shake the hand of that great half-American half-Englishman, Winston
Churchill, have tried to ignore common decency in the name of profit.
It is amazing that you speak of decency at the same time you openly
support
our enemies.
George
imprison and torture prisoners without punishment for the jailers.
Me? Imprisoning and torturing prisoners? Bhwhhahahahahahahahahaha!!! I'm
not the one living in a spider hole in British Columbia, grasshopper.
Try to understand George, that just because people are your enemy does
not mean they are my enemy. Indeed, if al-Qaeda succeeds in knocking
you off, SCS will probably have to be restrained from sending bouquets
of roses to Osama and his associates.
That's just great. So where do I send the flowers for your funeral,
Wahabbihopper?
George
pleasure of pissing on your grave.
