Re: Nutty Prof

The Highlander instructs us on the proper way of knife-throwing...

<snip>

I thought everyone could throw a knife! The best knife of all to throw
is a British Army bayonet. Heavy, razor-sharp; nobody walks away after
getting hit with one of those.

<snip>

As a matter of interest, I throw a knife by its blade and it does one
half-turn on its way to the target. The skill lies in accurately
estimating the distance to the target by eye. I figure that if you're
within 30 feet of me, you're a dead man. I practised endlessly as a
child and the ability to estimate the distance to the target seems to
have stayed with me

<snip>

I haven't thrown a knife in years; in my younger days, this knowledge
(and the occasional demonstration) was rather useful, although not
always the best way to make a good first impression on those of the
other gender.

When I did throw a knife (my uncle and dad taught me), I usually held
it on the small side (by the blade unless it was really, really sharp;
then by the handle) as if I was holding a hammer or a large
stick--wrist stiff so it wouldn't go all over the place--and if all
went well, it would probably go at least a full revolution before
hitting the target.

It takes a lot of practice and significant arm strength to do well.
