Does identity play ever take place in newsgroups? Do some people

Is this something that worries you?

No.

Can anyone explain to my why the fact that somebody might be pretending
to be somebody else, either in the group or a sock puppet, doesnt
generally seem to be seen as a problem or anything to worry about at
all?

If you can't do anything about something, it's daft to worry about it. I
consistently sign myself "Lesley Robertson" which happens to be my name -
but you only have my word for that. I could be Kermit MacMuppet for all
you
know - how are you ever going to be sure? And why does it matter? If
someone chooses to use a nom de keyboard, why is that worse than a nom de
plume? Sure, sock puppets and trolls turn up periodically, but they're
easy
enough to deal with (indeed, we give awards from effort in trolling). We
have one member who's tried to pretend to be some of us, but it's easily
detected.

Why do you think it's such a big deal?
Lesley Robertson

You're Kermit MacPuppet?

Well I'll be...

Well, actually his sister Piegi, but don't tell anyone....
