Ok so they are pointless - so why all the bleating about civil liberties
and
'despots' (A Wanker-S) - if the information is already there then there is
nothing to worry about is there?

How about that little fact that as soon as these things come into force we
begin a new era where the government forces of all kinds can use control
methods.

OAP goes to draw pension - Card please.
Work seeker applies for the dole - Card please.
Child applies to join library - Card Please.
Traffic Warden to driver - Card Please.
Policeman stops anyone for anything - Card please.
Smoker found in pub - Card please.
Person paying for supermarket purchase - Card please.
Get the picture?
There may be a very easy way to kill the whole thing stone dead.

Parked vehicle driver to warden - Card please warden.
Motorist stopped by policeman - Card please officer.
Applicant for library ticket to librarian - Card please librarian.
Voter at polling station to official - Card please official.
Voter to candidate for election - Card please who ever you are.
Householder to meter reader - Card please whoever you are.
Person caught dropping litter to council official - Card please whoever you
are.

These ID cards could be a two edged sword for officialdom who would also
have a duty to produce a card on request.
