It does indeed. It speaks of the days of DC generation and
difficulty transmitting electricity very far.

Battersea was built at much the same time as the National Grid. It
is of a different era than the local stations you spoke of earlier.

Don't try and teach me to suck eggs.

If one was to follow that logic then that rules out nuclear power
stations, which are (to a first approximation) either on or off.

Alternatively one does not try one size fits all arguments, but
instead understands the strengths and weaknesses of different sorts
of generation. The best way to meet short term demand is not with
coal, nuclear or wind power, but rather with hydro stations running
in immediate response mode. While waiting they consume no water and
take just a little electricity from the system, but can produce full
output in a few seconds.

So far so good.

As mad as the electricity transmission line that currently runs
between Beauly and Denny presumably.

There are also transmission lines between the same places which take
the long way via the East Coast. The background information on the
Beauly - Denny project explains the considerations about them or the
"direct" route.

Some may want a Balkanised electricity system in the UK, but not
everyone does.

Yet a few paragraphs before you were claiming that the same hydro
schemes were and are to supply local demand. Sorry, you can't have
it both ways.

>In case you had not noticed Scotland is a net exporter of energy

We are certainly a net exporter of electricity. However, the reason
for this is rather foolish decisions before privatisation about
building large power stations.

Balkanisation again.

Excellent, more personal abuse.

>Can you actually visualise the height and bulk of those pylons?

Yes.

Yes.

I disagree.
