Are we? I suspect that electricity consumption in Scotland is
rising, as it is elsewhere in the UK. Reasons for this include dopey
manufacturers that don't provide off switches, people leaving things
on standby rather then turning them off, more households and more
gadgets. Factories are being replaced by swish offices, with high
electrical loads for lighting, computers and air-conditioning fans.
There are plenty of examples near to the Lexmark place.

The closure of Ravenscraig is perhaps the exception that proves the
rule. ISTR it cut Scottish electricity demand by 2%, but this is a
very vaguely remembered figure.
