Look at Scotland this way..

Following on from debate about 'Bankrupt' Scotland - if you didn't want
to live there - where else would you live?

Most Brits go and live in Canada,Australia,New Zealand or the US. I
suspect this is mainly due to language problems as the thought of
living in Spain or Italy would be much better than most of those
countries. Every day I talk with people who are from around the globe
and who have lived just about everywhere. Here is a potted summary of
what they think and why they live in this case in New Zealand.

Canada - great place but f* cold in winter.
Australia - slightly racist,right wing government and the place is too
hot and full of poisonous beasties.
US - least said the better nowadays. The pay is great but they work you
like a trojan.
Anywhere in Europe - ok if you can speak the language.

You may consider Malysia - the pay is ok but the native Malay don't
really like anybody else except - yes you have guessed - native Malay.
They hate the Chinese for instance and a foreigner cannot buy a house.
You need to be a 'son of the soil'. They work you hard then kick you
out of their country.

Singapore - good pay but very cramped.Ok to live in as long as you have
work.They will kick you out otherwise.
Ditto with Hong Long.

Mainland China - civil liberties problems etc
Most Asian countries are ok except if you don't have work or are sick.
Every man for himself.
India sounds romantic but unless you are rich forget it - and as for
Pakistan! Bangladesh is corrupt as hell - bribery is the norm for
everything. Need a driving license? You failed because you forgot to
bribe the examiner!

The middle East is a big draw - the pay is second to none. I have heard
so many horror stories. The Arabs consider themselves to be top of the
pecking order - anything they say goes. They make up the laws as they
go along and they can break them but not you. It's even worse if you
are Indian and you work there. If you end up in jail God alone knows
when they will let you out.

Russia - don't even think about going there - also the Ukrain.

South America - corrupt as hell.

South Africa - even more corrupt nowadays and expect to get shot at if
you as much as slow down at the traffic lights at night. Doctors get
abducted to help underground victims of shootings. If the victim dies -
so does the doctor.

I no somebody who lived in Jamaca - now that sounds great? His best
friend got shot - evrybody carries guns.There rae no rules of the road
and drink driving is the norm. Very violent.

Phillipines - very violent with guns galore - a friend of mine said
that at a restaurant there was a sign saying 'please leave your guns
here before entering'! They mug you if you are a foreigner - soon as
look at you.

North Africa? Everybody wants out.

New Zealand - great place - pay is crap but the sun is fierce in
Summer.

So you can see why most people flock to Europe,Canada,Australia,New
Zealand - we are civilised and look after the sick. We don't kick
people out of our countries if you are unemployed and their is a stable
legal system which is relatively fair. Their is also religious freedom
which is more than you get in most countries.

Scotland and England together with the rest of Europe lead the way in
most things and always have for some time. It's a great partnership. If
you don't like it consider the alternatives...
