Yes, I am serious (as usual).
My nephew, has 20+ acres in Noo Hampsha'
My wife and I have been there 4 times.
I like it. Its a friendly low key kind of place.
I think that many Scots who are approaching retirement and
have all of their big decisions (and bills) behind them would
find it quite affordable. Housing is far less expensive than the UK
and runs about half the price here for similar accomodation.
This year the *average* house price UK was £161,000.
That's around $320,000. You can get a lot for that with change
back in Noo Hampsha. My nephew has offered me the land
(already cleared and serviced) and will build a small house for
me for $40,000. I could be a Prince of Noo Hampsha.
More realistically, I am seriously thinking of the 3 months at a time
deal that your neighbours are doing. That's the normal permitted stay
in the US without any immigration requirement, plus you still get your
UK pension. You could buy an adequate car for $2000 and
give it away to some kid when you come home (I'm all heart)
I find that I integrate into the local community in about 10 seconds flat
and have been desccribed as "electable in Noo Hampsha"
I am well received in the American Legion and
by the end of the week, I am more Murkin than a Murkin. ;-)
Seriously.! ;-)
Happy New Year
