Glad to be here--and the sad thing about it all, I think I actually
understood what he was straining at; however, it all boils down to an
understanding of US geography, where I do believe he is (based on his
attempt) rather deficient--
He was doubtless referring to me as a native of my home state which has
been referred to as "North Carolingus" which is north of "South
Carolingus" and south of "Virgina"--generally its residents are
referred as "carolinguists" and their actions and activities are lumped
under the heading of "carolinga"--however, these references can be
found in the OED as "archaic"--most natives of NC are now referred to
as "Tarheels" which may refer to the fact that most of us cannot afford
decent footwear and have problem contributing tax money to effectively
Macadamize the roads. Oh well.
Back home, just to mention, I do have some relatives living in the town
of Scotland Neck, in Caledonia Township, Halifax County NC--it has
never been determined if the town's name referred to the fate of some
recalcitrant Scot emigrant to the area, of which there were many,
including (for a time) the ever popular Flora Macdonald.
I think I'm going to like it here.
Calamity Jane
