Greetings!

As the old year wends its weary way out, and the new year stands poised
and ready, I usually cast about for new experiences to try--although I
have used computers in my line of work for quite some time, it was only
the enforced leisure resulting from a collision with a taxi cab that
showed me the Internet and the World Wide Web as a form of recreation.
Therefore, I have been looking at various newsgroups, participating at
some, lurking at many others. I arrived here because I am (on my
father's side) of Scottish ancestry; my grandfather's grandfather was a
native of Ayrshire who studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh
and emigrated with his family to Canada after the American Civil War.
Our family was always aware of being Scots; one of my sisters (I am the
youngest of six) married a native of Glasgow and visits those relatives
he has left back in Scotland at least twice a year--I have tagged
along, and have always enjoyed myself. So since I was a little girl, I
have had an interest in my family background and the country from
whence we first sprang.

I have been lurking amongst you all for quite some time, and I thought,
as the new year approaches, it's best I make a start and announce my
presence (to which most of you may say something somewhat
(un?)appropriate as "Awa' and bile your heed, ya girning little Murkin
git") and just say that I have continually enjoyed this group, and look
forward to participating more fully in the New Year.
