Then if Scotland is a nation woh come National service was in the British
forces?

Well on that last count I was born around 1929 and have lived in Scotland
all my life except for a spell in England during the war.

Nothing to do with not being a country though and Scotland is recognized as
a country but not as a state as the state is The United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland.

A passport is nothing to do with it some people have more than one.

Oh! No you would not - you would be tried as a traitor to the crown and that
is why we have a UK, or had you not noticed that the second word is
KINGdom?. We have four countries that became united after England took both
Wales and Ireland by military victory and then the Scottish King James VI
becabe also James I of England in the Union of The Crowns in 1603. It was
not until 1707 that they signed a treaty of Union to have one Parliament.
For over 100 years we had a united KINGdom but were not united countries. We
only have a common parliament by the Treaty Of Union and this was followed
by the Act Of Union passed by the now combined parliament.

Aye! But that is not exactly the legal position.

No I want Scotland to be an independent country. She already has her
parliament back again. We would, hopefully in the interests of all UK
countries, make new treaties with the other, hopefully, independent UK
countries. Rember it is the monarchy that makes a it a Kingdom and a treaty
that makes it a state, nation or, if you like, a political entity.

Wrong! For the reason I stated that a state is a political union and not a
country. BTW: When they did become the United States they were independent
but their treaty made them one country. Ours did not.

Simply because France is but one country.

Again because they are one country. The UK is four countries. Even the acts
of parliament passed to this very day make that fact plain. Where Scots law
differs from English and Welsh law, (or that of Northern Ireland's), the act
is written to reflect this. Not so long ago, it may even still be the case,
the English police had no jurisdiction in Scotland, and vise versa. If a
crime is committed in Scotland then the English police cannot come into
Scotland to arrest the suspect. They must get the Scots police to do that.
