Guide to God, part 20/41: The System
-----
The System
The Perfect System: The only perfect system of government
was given by God and is recorded in the Torah/Pentateuch.
Theory And Practice: A perfect system of government can
indeed be set down on paper, however, in practice, human
nature will ensure its failure. A perfect system requires
peaceful individual members. A man is not at peace with
his neighbour because he is not at peace with himself; he
is not at peace with himself because he is not at peace
with his Maker; he is not at peace with his Maker because
he does not know his Maker. If he does know his Maker and
is yet not at peace, then his problem is pride.
Politics: Politics is a great distraction -- designed by
the devil to keep our eyes off the prize of eternity.
Politics has caused great divisions in society. This is
regrettable. Each individual is entitled to his personal
political views; however, the insecure persons in society
seek to impose their political views on others, seeking
their approval and acceptance. God is not concerned with
your political views. You may know the cure for all of
society's ills, but God has always known the cure -- and has
given it to us in His word. God is only concerned with how
you spend your time in the flesh. In the Day of Judgement,
you must stand naked and alone in the presence of God and
give an account of your every thought, word, and deed. You
must answer for yourself -- and no one else; neither can
anyone else answer for you. Therefore, do not concern
yourself with the affairs of others; but rather mind your
own business: Why should you concern yourself with
profitless things? You are not here to change the world --
that's God's job. You are here to change yourself by
transforming yourself into the image of the perfect God.
Politics is merely one manifestation of the battle between
good and evil. We must not forget that God permits good and
evil to coexist for a time, which serves His purpose of
instructing man in the ways of good and evil.
Politicians As Gods: People tend to look to politicians
for solutions to their problems, whether those problems
encompass an individual or an entire nation. However,
government solutions tend to apply to the physical realm,
whereas the root causes of the problems of the world are
spiritual and moral: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but
sin is a reproach to any people." [Proverbs 14:34]
Good things follow good people -- both individually and
nationally. Without moral integrity, you are worthless in
the eyes of God; and God destroys that which He has no use
for: "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down
and thrown into the fire." [Matthew 7:19]
Government Solutions: To combat social ills, the government
has only two weapons in its arsenal: Legislation and money.
These two tools can be applied only to the physical, not the
spiritual. Treating the physical is akin to treating the
symptom rather than its cause, since the spirit is master
of the flesh; wherever the spirit leads, the flesh follows.
Those who break existing laws do not need more laws; they
need an incentive to live peaceably with their neighbour.
Those who abuse social services do not need more handouts;
they need an incentive to use their God-given talent to
achieve their greatest potential. To live righteous lives,
God has given men the incentive of life eternal in His
glorious presence. One of the greatest error of government
is to provide guaranteed lifelong care to its citizens,
thereby removing the need for individual strife. Strife
is good, since it produces character and a sense of
accomplishment: "And not only that, but we also glory
in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces
perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character,
hope." [Romans 5:3-4] In order for a man to strive to be
good, he needs hope of a worthwhile reward for his efforts.
Governments cannot provide this hope, only God can.
Without God, nothing matters: We come from the dust and
we return to the dust -- that is our beginning and our end.
If I Were King: Many men feel that they can set the world
straight -- if only they could get the opportunity to do
so. Really? God has bestowed roles of leadership and
authority upon all men, making them priests, prophets, and
kings of their household. Is your household in proper
order? "For if a man does not know how to rule his own
house, how will he take care of the church of God?"
[1 Timothy 3:5] "He who is faithful in what is least is
faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least
is unjust also in much." [Luke 16:10] "If you then are not
able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?"
[Luke 12:26] If you really want to rule the world, be
numbered among the saints, for the saints will rule the
world during the Millennium. (More on this later.)
Law And Lawlessness: All the laws and ordinances of God
are currently under vicious attack by the devil and his
children. Three things proceed from the devil: Division,
destruction, and death. Are you doing the work of the
devil? If you are, know that the only thing the devil can
give to those who follow him is death eternal.
Light And Darkness: There are two types of people on the
earth: Children of light and children of darkness. Those
who seek God and keep His commandments are children of
light; those who shun God and despise his commandments
are children of darkness. Children of light seek God
because they know that He holds all things in His hand,
and will give all things to those who are found worthy to
receive them; children of darkness are self-centred, and
seek to fulfill their own desires. Children of darkness
cannot look upon the light (knowledge) of God, lest their
sins be exposed; thus, they seek to remove all semblances
of God from their sight, lest their own nakedness be
exposed (for people are clothed with their own good works).
God And State: George Washington said, "It is impossible
to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."
Abraham Lincoln said, "Those nations only are blessed whose
God is the Lord." History verifies that these sayings are
true, yet there are those who would remove God from
government. For example, there are those who would remove
the Ten Commandments from government offices, courts of law,
public schools, public buildings, etc.: Why? Is there any
evil in the Ten Commandments? If there is no evil in the
Ten Commandments, why remove them from public view? If the
Ten Commandments are good, why not promote them? There is
only one logical explanation: There is a real devil (and
his children) who oppose the things of God. The Ten
Commandments exposes sins, and the children of the devil
would rather remain in darkness, lest their sins be exposed.
The murderer does not want to hear, "You shall not murder";
the adulterer does not want to hear, "You shall not commit
adultery"; the thief does not want to hear, "You shall not
steal"; the perjurer does not want to hear, "You shall not
bear false witness"; etc. God is in all things -- including
government. It is God who gives value to a thing. But
when you remove God from something, it becomes worthless.
"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any
people." [Proverbs 14:34] Thus, the nation which keeps the
Ten Commandments will rule the world.
Good And Evil: There are only two types of people on the
earth: Good and evil. Good people keep the commandments of
God, and thereby receive blessings and possessions from God;
evil people transgress the laws of God, and thereby bring
curses and dearth upon themselves. In order for evil people
to survive, they must subsist off the avails of good people:
This is why evil people favour socialism.
Socialism: Socialism is a great evil. It is evil because
it redistributes wealth; and the redistribution of wealth
encourages fraud and laziness. Laziness is a great evil.
No lazy person will enter into eternity. A person may be
born poor, however, he remains poor only through laziness
or the transgression of the laws of God. You may ask:
"Who will care for the needy and disabled in society?"
Answer: Philanthropists.
Philanthropy: Most wealthy people are eager to help the
less fortunate; however, they, like everyone else, do not
like to be defrauded or deceived, but desire the wise
investment of their resources. The solution to effective
philanthropy is face-to-face meetings between the
philanthropist and the potential benefactor. Not only is
this approach more efficient, but it is also more
satisfying. The problem with socialism is huge "faceless"
bureaucracies which are expensive and inefficient: A person
is more likely to defraud a "faceless" bureaucracy than an
individual philanthropist.
Wealth: The accumulation of great wealth in the hands of
few men causes the economy to falter. The solution is to
instigate a voluntary jubilee (forgiveness of debt and
restoration of acquired property) once per generation
(every fifty years): This, however, is probably impractical
when one considers the strength of greed and fear which too
often overrules our potential generosity. Here is a
suggestion: All proceeds made from usury (interest) should
be given to charity; wealth should only be kept when
something useful (a product or service) is produced in the
process. It should be noted that a man should never be
compelled to part with his lawfully-gained wealth; giving
should always be voluntary.
Investing Your Wealth: Our purpose on the earth is not to
accumulate great wealth; our purpose is to grow spiritually.
If you give great wealth to your children, you do them a
disservice, since wealth may inhibit their willingness to
work. Work is a good thing, as it exercises our God-given
talent so that we may achieve our greatest potential. If
you leave great wealth to your children, what will they do
with it? Will they not use it do destroy themselves through
idleness and excess? Here's how to invest your wealth:
First, leave a reasonable amount to your children -- based
on their abilities; second, use your wealth to make the
world a better place: "Jesus said to him, 'If you want to
be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.'"
