The manager of the Gdansk Shipyard in Poland has appealed for workers from neighbouring Ukraine to help fill jobs vacated by emigrating Polish workers.
In the case of Ukrainians working in Polish shipyards, there would seem to be no obvious impediments - any more than there are to Africans, for instance, working in the British health service.
Why it should? Even X-ray does not show the difference between a Polak and a Ukrainian.
Lloyd George said [quote] during Paris 1919 Conference:
"I only saw a Ukrainian once. It is the last Ukrainian I have seen, and I am
note sure that I want to see any more"
Well, apparently the Manager of the Gdansk Shipyard and sir George have difference of opinion.
Well. This is his call.
Ukrainian welders will be better off by immigrating to Canada. At least we are paying in hard currency.
In what a sense the Polish currency is "soft"? Please explain. It is readily convertible into the Canadian currency and others and every goods can be bought for it. Its exchange rate against Euro and dollar has been holding its ground for a long time and recently increased again.
The value of money earned in Poland may increase in time in relation to that earned in Canada.
So, what's your problem with it and what is your definition of "hard currency" if not such attributes??
Maybe you like problems and try to find some where there are none? Or maybe you simply still live in the '70-ties and the old concept of "hard currency" got stuck hard in your mind?
currency and our hourly rates are probably exceeding Polish shipyard offer.
Hoourly rates, probably yes, but how does the Canadian currency "exceed" the Polish one?
I bet Canadian rents and utility bills exceed the Polish ones too. Costs and times of travelling back home also and gasoline prices maybe, although this I cannot be sure.
