Syria can defend itself - PM

Syria can defend itself against any Zionist regime's attack, Prime
Minister Mohammad Naji Otri said Thursday after the Zionist regime flew
warplanes over Syria's presidential palace.

"Syria is capable of defending itself against any aggression," Otri
told reporters after a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart Maaruf
Bakhit.

"This act of piracy is aimed at covering the attack on Gaza," Otri
said, referring to the Zionist regime's military offensive on the Gaza
Strip.

The Zionist regime has accused Hamas leaders based in Syria of being
involving in the holding capture of a Zionist soldier and in a show of
force Wednesday sent warplanes flying over President Bashar al-Assad's
palace in the north of the country.

Otri expressed "Surprise at the silence of the international community
toward all these Israeli acts and daily aggressions" against
Palestinians territories.

"This is the result of the weakness of the Arabs," he said.

"Had we been more powerful and united, Israel would not have been able
to send those messages," he said, referring to the overflights.

But Otri added: "If the Zionist enemy embarks on another adventure, I
think that all the Arabs will be by Syria's side."

Bakhit also denounced the Zionist regime violations of Syrian airspace,
saying: "Any violation of Arab territories is against international
laws."
