Boycott costing Danish business dear

<snip>

Denmark's Danske Bank estimates Danish goods worth 10 billion
kroner ( 6.3 billion; $1.6 billion) annually are threatened in
20 Muslim countries by the boycott.

Denmark's overall 2004 exports totalled 452 billion kroner, or
about $73 billion.

Gee - so lost export *turnaround* will *potensially* decrease
by a whopping 10/452 = 2.2%. *If* the boycott is effective and
not offset by increased demands from other places.

<snip>

Arla Foods, one of Europe's largest dairy companies, is thought to
be the worst hit. Jacob Mikkelsen, the company's manager for the
United Arab Emirates and Oman, said it has lost an estimated $1.36
million each day of the boycott.

<snip>

Arla, which draws some 6% of its revenues from the Arab Gulf states,
employs about 1500 people ***in the region.***

Mikkelsen warned the company may have to start laying off workers if
the boycott continued.

Somehow I don't really see it as such a huge problem for employment
in Denmark if a Danish company decides to cut costs by closing down
local operations in a region with slumping local demand (the gulf
region) and fire 1500 locals ...

I wouldn't worry overly much about these symbolic improvised
boycotts. Even places that have been hit by *sustained* boycotts
from people that are organized enough to stay focused over time
usually just shake these boycotts off and move on.

I would be surprised if those moslims that are stupid enough to
run around throwing rocks and chanting various slogans will be
able to do much of anything in an organized and sustained way ...
