Flags made in China?
PETALING JAYA: The reason for the errors on some Malaysian flags such as
position of the crest and star could be due to them being made in China.
Harnek Singh Sidhu, 57, who has been collecting the Malaysian flag since he was
16, said some of the mad-in-China flags he bought had the wrong design.
Among the flaws:
- Some flags had 15 stripes instead of 14;
- Some hand-held flags have the blue section with the crescent and star printed
on the right quarter instead of the left;
He said these flags were made from low-grade polyester instead of cotton. "We
are promoting Buatan Malaysia (Made in Malaysia) but the flag - the soul of the
nation - is being manufactured in China," he said.
The national flag has 14 horizontal red and white stripes of equal width (along
the fly), beginning with the red stripe on top, to represent the 13 states and
the Federal territories.
The canton of dark blue in the upper left quarter, extending down to the top of
the fifth red stripe, stands for the unity of the people of Malaysia.
It contains a crescent to symbolise Islam, the official religion of Malaysia,
and a 14-point star to signify the unity of the 13 states and the Federal
government.
The colour yellow signifies the royal colour of the Rulers.
The colour red signifies strength, bravery and courage in facing challenges and
white is for honesty and integrity.
