Number of unfit Malysians on the rise
KUALATERENGGANU: Over 5,500 Malaysians die yearly of lifestyle diseases like
heart failure, said Health Ministry Parliamen-tary Secretary Datuk Lee Kah
Choon.
He said it was more worrying to know that an average of 120,000 heart patients
are being registered in Government hospitals, annually.
?The increasing number of more unfit Malaysians indicates that our numerous
health campaigns have not reached or created an awareness among the public,? he
said after launching the biggest free health campaign at Mydin Hypermarket here
organised by the Lions Club of Kuala Terengganu recently.
Lee said the numbers of patients for other diseases related to the kidneys,
lungs and diabetes were also soaring.
He said there were also some two million diabetic patients.
?Many are suffering from such chronic ailments although the current lifespan of
Malaysians had escalated to be-tween 73 and 76 years,? Lee asid.
He added that modern lifestyle and eating habits had contributed to the increase
in such chronic aliments.
