drug offences in Japan.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) spokeswoman said two Australian
men were arrested for "alleged narcotics related offences".

"The Australian embassy in Tokyo has sought access to the men and will provide
consular assistance if requested," the spokeswoman said.

Foreign news services earlier reported an Australian man who teaches English in
Japan was arrested with five colleagues on suspicion of possessing cocaine and
cannabis.

The six foreign nationals were all said to be English teachers at language
schools.

nationals were suspected of possessing about 1.5 grams of cocaine and 8.2 grams
of cannabis.
