HONG KONG (AP) ? "Miami Vice," which includes steamy love scenes between Colin
Farrell and Chinese actress Gong Li, has cleared censors in China, a Beijing
newspaper reported.
The Beijing News quoted director Michael Mann as saying the film had been
cleared to screen in Chinese movie theaters and that he was considering
returning to China to attend the premiere.

Mann was in Shanghai to film a commercial, the newspaper said.

The report in Sunday's editions said it wasn't clear if censors had asked that
the R-rated movie be edited in any way.

State-run China Film Group declined to confirm the report. Yuan Wenqiang, the
group's vice president for external relations, said work on importing "Miami
Vice" was ongoing.

"I'm not at liberty to tell you what stage it's at," he

told The Associated Press.

China only imports 20 foreign films a year and keeps a tight watch over their
content.

Beijing banned last year's "Memoirs of a Geisha," which starred Zhang Ziyi and
Gong, reportedly over concerns about stoking anti-Japanese sentiment.

There were also concerns about scenes set in Shanghai in "Mission: Impossible
III" that showed tattered underwear hanging from laundry lines, but Chinese
censors eventually approved the movie.
