Filipinos heavy into dialects

I do not know where Saad Hashim (Toyota salesmen and the national language)
got his information regarding Chinese Filipinos speaking to each other in
Pilipino. If they know Chinese, they will speak to each other in Chinese.
Ilocano Filipinos (from Northern Luzon) speak to each other in Ilocano.
Tagalog Filipinos (in and around Manila) speak Tagalog. Likewise every
other ethnic group in the Philippines (and there are hundreds) uses its own
language when speaking to another of the same linguistic group. Almost all
Filipinos speak in their own dialect in their homes and villages, unless of
course the husband or wife comes from another of the Philippines enumerable
indigenous groups, or migrant races, or a person from another ethnic group.
They only speak Pilipino, the national language of the Philippines, when
the other person cannot speak their mother tongue (or dialect). Among the
educated, English (or its colourful local adaptation, Taglish) will be used
to communicate to "other" Filipinos.
I am married to a Filipina. She speaks Tingguian to her family members and
those from the highlands of her province, Ilocano to those from her region
(Northern Luzon). Tagalog to other Filipinos outside her home region. She
speaks to me in English, because I am a "foreigner.
