Chinese Tourists in Perspective

Ok, here's to put some not necesarily accurate facts about Chinese tourist
arrivals, from my conversation with a few friends who are in the tour
related industry, over dinner yesterday
1. 9 out of 10 arrivals, end up in Genting for 2 days or 2 nights, and then
it's off to Singapore or Thailand, because they usually come for about 10
days
2. WHy do they only spend 2 days in Malaysia ?
a. No night life. The men who come, obviously can pay, so they want to be
entertained by women in bars, karaokes, etc... They don't give a flying
F**k about our zoo lah, Petronas Twin Tower lah, or shopping lah.... You
can find all this nite entertainment up in Thailand for a fraction of what
it costs here, and for anything that cannot be found here, you can find it
in Thailand
b. The women, they walk walk here, walk walk there and that's it. Shopping
??? You mean they left Shanghai to come to Malaysia to shop ??? We need to
put this into perspective here. Given that if a BMW 3 series is about the
same price as any Proton car, which would most people buy ?
c. Singapore has that allure in the sense that the Chinese want to see what
another Chinese country in South East Asia is like, in terms of management,
cleanliness, way of life, etc.....
d. Thailand is actually the desired destination, since you cannot say my
food is better than your food, given that every country has unique food.
However, the nite life is number 1, and that's a fact, substantiated by the
number of Malaysian men who go over there everyday for day trips and weekend
trips. Before I was married, and now my wife keeping my passport, I also
visit my second home, 2 to 3 times every month.
So, no matter how hard you apologize, or promote our country to China, you
have to keep things in perspective and that is, what do we have to offer
that China does not have ? A Chinese tour guide who was with us yesterday,
commented that it only takes 6 months to see all of Malaysia, but it will
take more than 10 years to see China. While I do not know if this is true
or not, I do personally know some people who are already on their 6th or 7th
trip to China, always a different location and they are still not even 1/2
done visiting, and they are still looking forward to visit China again and
again
