a minor clarification:

split into old guard and avant guard.

there's typically no danger of this type of split in lebanese parties,
the new guard are the political and financial heirs of the old guard,
there's never any problems there. but there's no shortage of other
types of same party splits, most popular of these are the pro-syrian
anti-syrian split, the pro-current za3im versus pro-past za3im, my
favorite is the intifada and the intifada on the intifada.

You will then have to redistribute the sectarian cum partisan pie into
what-pie? Pumpkin?
