No, the Lebanese take their constitution pretty seriously. Previous
amendments were forced by the Assad regime the last two presidents'
terms by an additional three years. This amendment seems to be forced
by the Assad regime as well, through its Lebanese agents. It's not as
serious as the previous two, but it's another show of force on the
part of the Assad regime and its Lebanese agents -- a reminder that
they have big guns, and they can destroy the country at will. This is
not to say the Sleiman is a bad choice, he's simply a spectator for
this portion of the game.

There is a danger if the vaccum is prolonged that things will get out of
hand whic serves the interest of Syria and Hizballah the most. Syria will
come back and Hizballah will ask to throw the Taef accord out.
