the role of the donkey in presidential politics

in october 2005 there was a conference in greece on "the role of the
donkey and mule in the culture of the mediterranean", the conference
is now a biennial event and the second one was just held last week in
the same place, the beautiful greek island of hydra:

I was disappointed to find that lebanon was absent from this
conference twice, maybe because when the first conference was held in
october 2005 we were busy extending the presidential term of syria's
top mule in lebanon, and now in october 2007 we are trying hard to
avoid replacing him with another mule. but then today reading the
headlines I was thinking this is no excuse for missing out on such
cutting edge research, especially when we have so much to share on
this topic. for instance just yesterday emile lahoud announced to the
world that lebanon's democracy is superior to the french system:

now where else in the entire mediterranean have people witnessed such
a specimen who not only talks like a jackass, but also smiles like one
and obeys his masters like a perfect mule for over 15 years now. in
fact where else has a donkey reached such a high office and where else
are they having such a hard time replacing a donkey with something
better like we are struggling with today in lebanon...
emile lahoud's reign is finally coming to an end next month, a moment
I have personally waited for since the day he was appointed president
by his syrian masters in 1998, and while I will miss the laughs from
his donkey insights on the evening news, I certainly hope his legacy
will be reviewed for what he deserves, and for the upcoming donkey
conference in 2009. Emile lahoud may not be the only surviving donkey
of such high prominence in the mediterranean region, indeed ehud
olmert our neighbor in the south has certainly proven to be a jackass
in every respect, but emile lahoud is certainly the only one in recent
history who is proud of being a jackass and who will leave no other
legacy for history except that of being a jackass. well, that and
perhaps being involved in some of the assassinations by his syrian
masters.
