I had more thoughts about the topic triggered by An-Nahar title that
Suleiman absolved the government (that's Siniora and Co.) from backing
Fatah Islam.

There are many layers to this statement. To even conceive of saying it is
insulting, let alone saying it. Only a total idiot (or someone with a smear
agenda) would even think of it. So for Suleiman to say appears to be
calculated (stupidly if you ask me) to strike a middle of the road position.
The Syrians didn't back F.I., a preposterous statement. By the same token,
Suleiman thinks, Siniora is not backing F.I. So on the face of it, Suleiman
appears to be conciliatory.

The problem, of course, is that for Suleiman to adopt this position vis-a-vis
the Syrian criminal regime he is essentially rejecting all evidence Army
intelligence service has gathered that incriminates this regime. Worse,
it appears as if Suleiman is prejudging a legal matter and suppressing
intelligence findings.

The bottom line, I attribute this behavior to stupidity and not shrewdness.

bikfaya. I don't mind if he just wants to be nice to rifaq al sila7
of the baath regime, but let's hope it stops there, it wouldn't look
too good if he's leaving the end of the battle in nahr el bared until
right before the presidential elections.

I read an article today that the Army has created a worse problem by
collapsing the buildings on top of the F.I. terrorists. The terrorists,
living safely in shelters under the rubble have become more difficult
to reach.
