The problem is that you read news through Google. Google does not have
filtering capabilities that I know of. I read news through a news reader.
I filter all crossposts to boot. This gets rid of 99% of the junk.

Some common news readers (agents):

Outlook
Thunderbird
*rn

I use the bottom two. In fact I am posting this now using trn which has
more sophisticated filters than Thunderbird.

In general, if you want to know what news reader posters are using,
look at their posted message header.
