No thanks to Aoun, though he was quick to take credit for it, but it
was due to the international pressure following the assasination
of Hariri.
This is where the Hariri and Jumblatt propaganda starts: by stealing
Aoun his credit in working to foment the international pressure you're
mentioning. Apparently you have forgotten that it was Aoun who worked
hard to get something calld the "Syria Accountability and Lebanese
Sovereignty Restoration Act" when Hariri was still splitting his wins
with Syria.
So when Aoun goes to Washington and lobbies, he is a great national
hero, when Hariri or Sanioura do it, they are agents of America that
have sold out their country to America.
The Syria Accountability Act was not the result of Aoun's lobbying
efforts, Aoun had little to do with it, though he supported it.
It was mostly accomplished when the pro-Israel lobby in Washington
decided to turn up the pressure on Syria, and when the Bush
administation
was frustrated with Syria for their lack of cooperation in preventing
anti-US forces in Iraq from getting re-supplied across the Syria-Iraq
border.
