I think Aoun thinks he is King George III
re-incarnated, and the closest he can get to a throne is being
president of Lebanon. The acts as if he has some divine right to
rule. Now, if he actually worked with the opposition and became
independent somewhat, the opposition would have accepted that probably.
But no, he wanted to stand out. Stand out he did, indeed. Where can
the disaffected members of Aoun's group go? What is their vehicle?
Obviously, they are not going to join the LF. It is very possible his
group will splinter. His calling for the resignation of Seniora kind
of is an attack on his own country. Seniora does not want undue
interference from Damascus, which Aoun claimed he stood for in the
past. He does not want illegal arms, and he is trying to do something
about that. Part of Seniora's lack of power comes because Hezbollah
Yes, it is Aoun who is acting as the obstructionist to disarm Hizballh.
Further, he has become the poster boy of the criminal Syrian regime.
has too much support among the Shia and Amal's Berri is following them,
and Aoun is also in some bizarre political marriage with them. If he
were with Seniora, rather than against him, then maybe he would have
room to later call for his dismissal, because the PM would have had
mroe political maneuvering with Aoun's people on board.

Aoun has lost alot of suporters during the last year. He is more
inclined to have personal attention than the benefit of his country.
The Aoun movement, Free Patriotic Movement, which claims (probably
true) to have the most intellectual Lebanese, and elite circles of
highly educated Christians and Muslims, are starting to think twice on
his strategies.
Aoun had an interview on the most watched political show 'Kalam el
Nass' hosted by the charesmatic and witty Marcel Ghanem, where Aoun
lost alot of support from his followers during the questioning of Aouns
intentions and understandings (the 10 points that he claims) with
Hezbollah. People are starting to wonder on his plans, and have doubts.
Hardly anyone the next day understood anything he was saying.
Though he claims on 'Kalam el Nass' that he moderated Hebollah from
liberating Palestine to keeping it real and focusing on Lebanon as his
sole objective. Maybe so.
Aouns' recent call for the governments resignation is absolutely
absurd! While the whole international community is dealing with PM
Seniora, you have Aoun that is in his government denouncing Seniora.
What awkward timing, and so out-of-context. Sadly his supporters, those
left, are harshly following his wild ideas, and always find excuse for
his actions.
I am sure, IF Aoun does become president, he'll rebuff any oposition as
absurd, but so long as he's not campaigning for presidency, he'll
always find it correct for him to rebuff the current government - Why
dosen't he ask for the President to resign? That would be more
reasonable? Who does Emile Lahoud represent? His family?
I for one, has lost all interest in Aoun. Though as a Christian, I
don't have much choices. Geagea isn't witty enough for my taste.
Christians need new a representative, new blood, a new face. Someone
educated charesmatic and competent that is able to represent his
people. Untill then, Seniora will do fine.
