Berri has attacked the UN and accused it of complicity in the criminal shelling of civilians. Berri is a major ally of Hizbollah and he bears some direct responsibility for the hostilities and the killing of civilians in Lebanon. The UN is a guest and is doing its best to keep two lunatic warring parties (Israel & Hizbollah) from committing aggression and shelling civilians. Shelling civilians must stop by both sides.
His point is that the UN turned away the refugees in a truck with 8-9 kids who were later shelled by Israelis and burned alive. I saw footage of these kids being moved a head, a piece of torso and a piece of leg at a time. He wants to know why the UN turned away the refugees thus causing their death. Me too. The refugees were fleeing because the Israelis told them to leave or be killed. They got killed anyway.
What bothered me about Berri's drivel is not the part of the UN. It's that he declared the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers justified. By internal law, it is not justified. The kidnapping happened in a part of the border that is not disputed between Lebanon and Israel. Israel sovereignty was thus violated relative to international law. Now Berri is condoning this violation. This makes him accessory to the crime by international law and thus an international outlaw. The justification (Israel holds a Lebanese prisoner for 22 years) is not a valid mitigating factor. Two wrongs don't make a right.
