yes that's it, for a lunatic he did manage quite a few good things,
like monotheism and founding amarna in the middle of the desert, but
probably his best and biggest feat was marrying nefertiti (what a
woman...)

otherwise during his reign egypt lost most of its power and influence,
but it's still not clear if all of this was his own doing or that of
the Aten priests behind him. what I wanted to point to mostly is how
little regional politics have changed, not just inside egypts but the
whole region. his father amenhotep 3rd was a master of foreign
relations, he kept all his neighbors happy and at the same time kept
them in their place, the funniest I've read about his brand of foreign
policy is that he advocated marriages between his sons and the
daughters of foreign kings, but refused to marry any of his daughters
to them, as a sign of superiority. so naturally who's the first to
complain about this, the lebanese :-)

exactly, of course as you pointed out the whole civil war ignited
because during the co-existence era the amun priests were privileged
and bullied the others, so some historians say that akhenaten's reign
was kind of a geagea intifada against the reign of ammuneh :) and it
seems that when the amun priests regained power and moved back to
thebes (umm, saifi ;)), they tried to brainwash the very young
tutankhaten against the rule and beliefs of his father which explains
why he died very early in mysterious circumstances, they quickly buried
him and renamed him tutankhamun. so allah yesterna :)

I used to think science demystified the whole religion issue, now I
look to what we know from science to keep myself interested in the
religious questions, if not for hanging questions like the big bang it
would have all amounted to nothing more than folklore.
