Naharnet:
Walid Jumblat has served notice the quadripartite alliance that won the
majority in Lebanon's new parliament will take the full reigns of the
new government "to paralyze the President's ability at sabotage as a
prelude to sacking him" from power.
"This is inescapable. We have to have a dominant representation in the
new government," Jumblat said in an interview reported by Al Anba'a
weekly of his Progressive Socialist Party. "We have to be able to
paralyze the president's ability at sabotage to reach the stage of his
expulsion."
Jumblat's statements means President Lahoud will not be allowed by the
Hariri-Jumblat-Geagea and Qornet Shahwan majority alliance to have a
ratio of cabinet ministers that would enable him to veto any of the
upcoming political, economic and social reforms as the case was during
Syria's reign of Lebanon.
"It is imperative to participate forcefully in the new government,
taking full control of key security services at any cost. The police
state system should definitely be dismembered in order to strip Lahoud
from the power that he used to make the system a rampart to defend the
president of the republic," said Jumblat.
He said the premiership was now a very sensitive issue that needed
consultations with other alliance partners. "Saad Hariri has the
majority. We shall hold the consultations and we will see."
