if it's taken china a mere two decades to catch up with the west and
only one tenth of its population has moved into the middle class life
style then just wait when let's say 500-700 millions of them chinese
become middle class. just imagine the demand for raw materials to
satisfy chinese consumption.
will laos be able to stop unscrupulous chinese and laonai folks from
razing a few hectares of prime timber? as bad as corruption is in laos
right now, it will get even worse in the next few years.

Don't worry this China GDP is still less than 1/3 of the US GDP. Per
capita, China still has a lot of catch to do.
