Re: The Kingdom of Lan-Xang: Precursor to modern Laos

i did read somewhere (no recollection of the source, so don't ask me
to provide any proof)
that there existed a tomb (or ທາຕ) of chao fa-ngum in muang nan
(thailand)

i think if the tomb existed, it would be a significant source of
evidences signifying lan xang past glory. and it should be well
preserved.

phainam,
you said you're history guy, you should know that even Vientiane was
burn to the ground by the then siameses and you still expect those
people to keep the tomb of our great king FaNgum, the one that siam
king sent his daughter to for scaring of him taking over siam at that
time?

this is interesting. i'm a lao history student myself and have done
quite an extensive research on this subject matter, however, thus far
i have not come across any solid records that would indicate the early
settlement of hmong and mien in laos prior to the reign of chao fa-
ngum. this is the first time i have read of such claim, which begs a
question. can you direct us to the sources of this claim?

by the way, we all know that chao fa-ngum was exiled in muang nan.
anyone knows where is his tomb in nan? if he was that great king,
there must be a manificent tomb of him, no?

The King Fa Ngum founded the medieval Kingdom of Lan Xang in the
mid-14th century in the Christian year of 1353. The King united a
group of previously separated city-states.

These city-states had been established centuries earlier by migrating
Shans, Siamese and Lao as well as Hmong and Mien hill tribes. The
first Lao principalities were consolidated in the 13th century
following the invasion of south-west China by Kublai Khan's Mongol
