the old big-tree-ghost be damned!!! even the two white story building
right at the three-street corner in downtown samneua is still
standing. that's a surprise for that was the place them laodeng forces
kept their first shot-down yankee pilots. i remember that guy very
well. he was in his mid 50's. must have been shot down while flying
one of the spotters over samneua on a reconnaisance mission. they
kept him in that building for a couple of years. we would walk to
school just a few blocks north and he would eat his banana and threw
the peels out of the window.

no he was not dieter dangler, the pilot whose story was made into a
major motion picture being shown as we speak in theaters acros
america.

so if i ever have an opportunity again, i will head back to the old
country with the latest camera gadget in hand, i will just sit out and
wait for the perfect pictures to come by and snap a few here and
there. hopefully i will not get blown into pieces by one of those
UXO's or send to phontong hotel courtesy of the Lao PDR.
