btw, this exchange phenomenon is happening as we speak. already here
where i live with a sizable lao community, i am seeing more and more
laonai coming over for all kinds of reasons. they are mostly young.

as conditions improve and people start to retire, the returnee influx
will be very visible at the wattay airport and all the major entry
points along the mekong.

when its time i might try riding the canoe back like i did when i
crossed the mekong more than 30 years ago. the old muonglao
gravitational pull is getting stronger and stronger every day.

a long long time from now there will somebody making a movie, a comedy
genre, where there's a scene showing this aging laonok trying to hitch
a ride back into town while this young laonai lad gets frisked at the
LAX airport and both yelling out loud 'VAI VAI DAE THORN...CHAI SEE
