Reported from the news on the Lao BC state that The "17 yrs old fishing
boy
caught the emerald Buddha (weight 5kg) in his fishing net while he
was
fishing on the Mekong river."

"In 2004 when I visited the Emerald Buddha Temple in Lampang, a
groundkeeper of the temple narrated the origination of the second
Emerald Buddha. The old man said the abbot of the Emerald Buddha Temple
in Lampang found a large green stone in a watermelon. The abbot wanted
to sculpt the Buddha statue out of the stone to replace the original
Emerald Buddha statue that was taken away from the temple. So, he
procured the assistance of the town's artists. The
artists had difficulties shaping the stone into Buddha statue. They had
been carving laboriously for seven weeks, but the stone refused to
yield the shape of a Buddha statue. Then during lunch time of the first
day of the eighth week, a white robed monk appeared to help carve the
stone. Thus, the monk completed the second Emerald Buddha statue on
that day."
