Laophuan:
I agree it's not a bad news that an increasing number of tourists visit
Luang Prabang and Laos. However, your estimated $1000-$3000 spent per
tourist while in Laos is exagerated. You have to come up with data on
who are those tourists (countries of origin and proportion), for how
long (averaged number of days) they stay, and what they buy and eat per
visit. Backpackers are mostly very careful about their budget. Our
neighbors, except for some rich Bangkokians or Singaporeans who may
stay at expensive hotels and may try luxurious French or traditional
Lao food, would not spend an averaged $2000 per person. And don't
forget to take into the equation how much Laos has to spend to clean-up
what those tourists bring with them besides their money after they
leave the country.
