PRESS RELEASE
Kurdish Independence Conference in Kurdistan
November, 2005 Salahaddin University & University of Sulaimani
Kurdistan
Man is free at the moment he wishes to be Voltaire. We say Nations are
free at the moment they want to be. Concurrent with the Iraqi National
Elections, 98% of the population living in Southern Kurdistan voted to
form an independent state. This resolve is also shared by an
overwhelming majority of Kurds in Iranian, Syrian and Turkish occupied
Kurdistan as well as Kurds in Diaspora who are determined to make
statehood a reality, not only for Southern Kurdistan but also for the
other parts of their divided homeland.
History has tied the political and economic destiny of Kurdistan to its
four neighboring countries thus making it clear that achieving
self-determination will need different strategies in different parts of
Kurdistan. Whether we believe in formation of four independent states
united in a regional pact or one independent federal Kurdistan, the end
result must include full membership in international organizations such
as the United Nations and a democratic system that ensures religious,
political, cultural and economic freedom and prosperity for all who
live in Kurdistan.
The Kurdish National Congress of North America (KNC) is committed to
bringing scholars and political leaders from around the world to
discuss a roadmap to realizing our goal of a United Free Kurdistan.
The KNC will hold a two-day Independence Conference: Kurdish
Independence, Democracy and Regional Stability? in Southern

URGENT ACTION
Iran: Imminent execution
PUBLIC AI Index: MDE 13/054/2005
12 September 2005
UA 235/05 Imminent execution
IRAN Abu Baker Mirza'i Qaderi (m)
Othman Mirza'i Qaderi (m)
Qader Ahmadi (m)
Jahangir Badouzadeh (m)
The four Kurdish men named above are all reportedly facing imminent
execution. They are held in Oromiye Prison, in western Iran.
The first three men, from Bokan in West Azerbaijan province, are
apparently accused of working fora Kurdish opposition group, the
Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI. They are thought to have been
part of a group of Iranian soldiers who were captured by the KDPI in
1984 and later released because they were Kurds. They went into hiding
shortly afterwards, but apparently returned to their home town of Bokan
earlier this year. The fact that the KDPI released
them is said to have raised the authorities' suspicions that they had
become involved with the organization, and has now led, 21 years later,
to their arrest.
There are unconfirmed reports that a fourth Kurd held in Oromiye
Prison, Jahangir Badouzadeh, is also be facing imminent execution. It
is not known what he has been convicted of.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The KDPI seeks the "establishment of a democratic federal Iran and the
attainment of Kurdish national rights in Iranian Kurdistan", and states
that it rejects all acts of terrorism and...planting bombs in public
places.
Unrest broke out in the Kurdish areas of Iran following the July 2005
killing of a Kurdish opposition activist, Shivan Qaderi. It has led to
scores of deaths, and mass arrests of Kurds, including human rights
defenders. On 3 September, Esma'il Mohammadi, a Kurd accused of
activities on behalf of a
banned Kurdish political party, Komala, was executed in Oromiye Prison
(for details see UA 236/03, MDE 13/028/03, 8 August 2003 and
follow-ups). Another Kurd, Mohammad Panjavini, was also reportedly
executed at the same time, apparently for his activities on behalf of
another Kurdish group called Agri Soor. Amnesty International fears
that the Iranian authorities may be stepping up the execution of
imprisoned Kurdish opposition activists in response to the recent
unrest.

Call for Solidarity and Assistance to the Victims of Katrina in the
United States of America
To the Citizens of Iraqi-Kurdistan and Iraq
With sympathy and great sorrow, we have watched the reports on the
devastation of the city of New Orleans by the hurricane Katrina. As
Iraqi and Kurds we wish to express our solidarity with all the victims
and their beloved ones.
So far, we have benefited from the support of many brave people in
America for our struggle for freedom, democracy and progress. We will
never forget that Saddam Hussein's brutal dictatorship would not have
been toppled in 2003, without the devotion of the American people and
their government. To our regret, almost daily American soldiers are
killed by terrorist in Iraq. We also remember that the billions of
dollars spent for the reconstruction of Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan are
the taxes paid by American citizens. As Kurds and Iraqis we know to
well what it means to loose ones home and become a refugee.
Now we can show our solidarity with those who supported us in 2003 when
we needed assistance. Therefore, we are calling all Kurds and other
Iraqis to donate for the victims of the natural disaster that hit the
South of the USA.
Our country is now impoverished after decades of dictatorship and war
and thus unable to contribute as much as its natural wealth could
allow. Thus we can not give, what we would like to, but we are able to
contribute, every one of us.
We are appealing to all Citizens of Iraqi-Kurdistan and Iraq and the
Civil Society Organizations and Charities to participate in this
collection. The collected donations will be sent as soon as possible
together with a letter of support and solidarity to the American Red
Cross.
Therefore we got a license (Number 2735 from September 4th 2005 ) from
the Local Authorities to conduct this collection.
