US soldiers were POWs. They were probably hoping the Japanese would obey
the laws of the Geneva Convention.<\

Which the Japs didn't. The guys who survived the years of imprisonment
looked like Holocaust survivors; thin, emaciated and crying.

Holocaust survivors look very healthy, garbageguz, apart from those who had typhus.

said group was never seen again, I'd get suspicious.<

You are a total fool to think that anyone knew what was going on.
Nobody "saw" anything, except for the kapos and those who were going
into the "showers" for the last time. A few hundred people in the
whole system, at most, knew what was going on. When my mother was in
the ghetto, and the Germans ordered all the young men (including her
two brothers) to report for "work detail," and they were never seen
again, do you think my mother, or anyone, knew where they were going?
All anyone knew was that they were never seen again. There were all
kinds of rumors, but no one, except the few who were directly
involved,knew anything.
