The legend of the Hebrews begins with Abram who changed his name to
Abraham and became the core idea for the inception of Judaism,
Christianity and later for Islam. The followers of Abraham, the father
of the Hebrews and later these other religions provided the belief
system of a single god around which his followers would coalesce,
except for the Catholic ideology of the trinity; the Father, Son, and
Holy Ghost - still considered monotheistic by Catholics.
Unification with just one god was effective for serving a ruling
elite; rulers or a single ruler, whereas with more primitive
polytheistic systems there are many priests or spokesmen for many gods
of relative disproportionate power and importance whereas just one
voice speaking for just "One God" becomes the only one, single
authority.
