I purchased an expensive item from someone and made the payment today.
The seller then told me that shipment will be delayed until next week
because he is Jewish and it is the end of the Jewish High Holidays.
I'm a little worried because I'm in doubt whether he really is Jewish
or whether this is a legitimate reason for delaying shipment. In many
cases, scammers use religious excuses to buy time, so I want to check
this out. I'm not a Jew and I really have no idea whatsoever if what
this person is telling me makes sense. So I have two questions:
1. Is this the end of the High Holidays? (I thought it was last month.)
2. Would the end of the High Holidays ordinarily be something that
would interfere with someone's ability to complete a transaction?
This guy lives in the US in the Bronx, NY.
You made the payment today - Shimini Atseres starts
tomorrow, Simchas Torah after that & then Shabbos.
It was just accidental bad-timing.

So are you saying that the answers to questions 1. and 2. are both yes?
