I don't see the connection. The catholic church did not persecute Jews
because we tried to convert anybody.

The Romans destroyed Israel & the temple, because we were as
troublesome to then as we were to the Greeks & because we wouldnt
worship their pantheon, which included their Emperor. Then they tried
to destroy Jewish presence in the promised land by excessive taxation.
Then when they incorporated their pantheon into their ersatz Judaism,
including the emperor/pope, they tried to persecute us out of
existence. Imo our continued existence, including the atheists &
secularists amongst our imo dialectic tradition, is an anathema to
them
.
