Cindy as everyone who has responded has told you, it is forbidden
to carry the knife to a bris on Shabbos without an Eruv.
The discussion on this thread inspired me to compose a little Purim
poem on the subject.
A mohel had a little sheep
Its fleece was white and full.
His knife the mohel used to keep
Stuck snugly in its wool.
The sheep would follow him to “shool”
For it was his decision
To keep tabs on his cutting tool
Of kosher circumcision.
And therefore if a bris was planned
To take place on Shabbat
He always had his knife at hand -
Even if he forgot.
And if you think the mohel’s trick’s
Illegal or in doubt,
Just turn to Pesahim sixty-six
And you can check it out.

OK. I'll cut you some slack.
Are you all out of breath after running a pentameter?
Wishing you a Purim Sa-me'-ach (Sunday for all but Walled City
residents),
Avraham (Ha)Kohen
(Haifa, where it rained a bit)
That wasn't in pentameter. penta=five
--------------------------------------------------------
Yes, even I knew that, although I couldn't tell a pentameter from a
centimeter from a centipede.
It was all about "cutting" some slack!
I am bitterly disappointed. I made a halakhic comment on a halakhic
subthread - albeit in the guise of a purim poem - and all I get in
response is comments about meter and slack!. What about the halakhic
ruling? Hasn't anyone bothered to look up my talmudic reference? What
is SCJM coming to??!!!
{WBT}*.

It didn't need looking up. It was obviously a reference to shechitas korban
Pesach when erev pesach is on Shabbat.
Although the rabbonim couldn't work out how to get the knives to the Bet
Hamikdash all the common people knew what to do and so do members of scjm
Freiliche Purim
up, but in the old days I would have received one or two "lamdonish"
responses. Moreover, there would have been bit of curiosity from some
of the other SCJMers.
O tempora O mores!
