Star Trek question

Debbie Schlussel says that the hand sign that Spock does when he says "live long and prosper", is taken from Judaism, and is what a Cohen/Priest makes. Is this true?

Also, there is a word that Micha used used, it starts with an inn, and it means something along the lines of, if you are not using it, it will eventually deteriorate... I know I am not saying that right. I am trying to find that post to reread it...Any help would is appreciated.
