Personally, I don't understand all this fuss about the Talmud..
I'm not Orthodox, so I don't need to consult it very often.
The reality of Conservative Judaism as I was taught it is that most of
the laws of Judaism which apply to me were
handed down to me by word of mouth from a Rabbi or a parent.

Like that inconvenient law about not eating shellfish.

My Father was extremely religious and he didn't even keep a copy of
the Talmud at home.

"Extremely religious" is a meaningless expression as what constitutes
"extremely religious" is only an opinion. And whether or not a person
owns a copy of the talmud is not related to how "religious" the person
is.

Neither did my Grandfather.

Back in those days, very few people had their own personal copies of
the talmud.

He learned Jewish law from his Father, just as I learned most of mine
from him.

Well, he certainly didn't convey to you the need to avoid eating
shellfish.

When I have questions, I ask my Rabbi.Isn't that what Rabbis are for?

And did you ever ask your rabbi about eating shellfish?

Didn't you previously state that you received you Jewish education in
Hebrew school until age 13? On the basis of what you've posted here,
whatever you learned, Judaically speaking, couldn't have been much.

Apparently, you aren't knowledgeable about anything except the Talmud,
since you did not comment on anything I said about American law,
California law, the Iintenal Revenue Code, AICPA pronouncements or
military law(in other threads).

I'm not obligated to comment on every post. I'll answer what I feel
like answering.

I was out eating dinner this evening. While gazing at the menu, I
thought of your
comments about shellfish. To show how much respect I have for your
opinion, I ordered crab.

Mumar LeHachis

I had to look that up... Just to clarify... If Joe ate crabs to tick
Cindy off, that is mumar lehachis....
------------------
Mumar lehachis (for anyone who doesn't know) is someone who sins out
of spite. This sort of childishness doesn't impress me in the least
(just as it did not impress me when my three-year-old son used to do
destructive things when I wouldn't let him have his way.)

I honestly don't care if Joe ate crab or not, and I am convinced (as
is mm) that there are issues going on here that really need to be
addressed with a physician. If he really did go to law school, as he
claims, if he really was a naval prosecutor, he couldn't have been
behaving then as he does now.
Best regards,
---Cindy S.
