As for evolution, isn't that a bit advanced even for high school?
Nope. Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.
At
high school one should be dealing with the basics of science and
scientific method rather than how life (and the planet) orginated.
Well, evolution does not deal with either of those, it deals with how
populations of living things change over time. It can be taught in
lower grades and should be taught in high school. That is what the
biologists say, but our education system has pulled back because of
the religious fundamentalists.
If
evolution is being taught then it is more likely that it is being used
as a form of indoctrination into a secular "religious cult" rather
than mere science.
OK, so find me one example of it being used that way in a school.
As it is, evolution is still a theory rather than proven science.
In science theories are the top of the hill, not the bottom. Science
does not prove, science build predictive models, theories. You have to
stop reading so much material by Christian fundamentalists.
Just as Relativity is still a theory within physics.
Yes, one of the best established best supported theories around. Would
you avoid teaching theories? If so, there is little to teach in a
science class.
These are
advanced topics that should be taught at the university level rather
than grade school or high school.
Who should I trust, you or the practicing scientists who develop the
curriculum? I think I will go with my understanding of science rather
than ignorance.

Maybe it is time to just get rid of public education. It is a failure
within the United States. We lose over a third of the kids due to
poor teaching, misuse of funds and kids not being allowed to be the
best they can be.
OK, so what country should we use as a model? What country has thrived
eliminating public education? Or do we lead the way here and
experiment with our future?
[snip]
Can we afford, facing that we are up against India and China, to waste
most of the youth in America for an experiment that is mostly about
jobs for teachers and administrators who are generally educated beyond
their intellignece? BTW, administration, as well as sports, is where
most of the money goes.
Are India and China doing it without public education? Or have you
changed your argument?
