Right now I'm just with Rabbi Shelaim Furst, so it's a private hechsher-
he's my rabbi. He also certifies Le Market next door to me, and
Continental
Bakery, across the street and a block down Burbank, which is also under
the
OU. I may go with RCC as well just because it's better known, but many
choshuv people have told me they'd eat by my restaurant under any
hashgacha,
because I'm the best hashgacha there is (for me), and they know me. Rabbi
Furst is well known in the North Hollywood/Valley Village area, as well as
being a well known rebbe in Toras Emes in the Han*** Park area of Los
Angeles. Definitely of the yeshivish persuasion.
So Craig, I've been out of here for a few years. What's going on with
your wine?
BS"D
I sold the winery in order to relocate for chinuch reasons, and I kept a
couple of wines, which I'm selling. I have GAN EDEN 1997 Limited Reserve
Cabernet Sauvignon and 2000 GAN EDEN Syrah, both stored well. Each one goes
for $150.00case to consumers, including shipping, but plus tax in CA. I
have about 300 cases of each, which I would love to get rid of, except for
personal stash.
I must say I miss winemaking. I live just north of a 20 acre parcel
inhabited only by 3 radio towers. When I can identify those in control of
the parcel, I'll approach them about planting vines on the property, around
the radio towers. It was recently sold by Disney to another entity, and I
was just beginning to identify the people who make decisions, so I could
make a proposal. Now, it's more difficult, because I have no contacts with
the new owners.
You'll get to know them. There's a webpage here for radio and tv pros
in the Balt-Wash region. It has news of hiring and firing, and format
changes. I'm sure there's something similar by you. Plus the webpages
of the stations. If you can't bump into them some other way, find a
place not far from where they work and invite them to lunch or dinner.
Just to get to know them. Tell them someday you want to rent the
land, and you could have a once-a-year WLAW grape-and-wine festival on
the property.
