They should move to New England, where the Blue Laws (Sunday closing
laws) only recently were overturned. (Recent being in my adult
lifetime). There are still places where one cannot buy liquor, beer
or wine on a Sunday.
I'm glad my town now permits Sunday alcohol sales. I remember when
I was growing up that across the border in NJ we couldn't buy blue
jeans on Sunday. I think they repealed that one.
Except in Bergen County. They still close on Sunday.
If a business decides to close for their day of rest, be it Shabbat,
Friday, Sunday or any other day of the week, what is people's
problem? Outside of the rural areas, most towns have at least two of
each type of store, or there is a Mall-Wart or other mega-retailer
within range that will be there for them to do their shopping at their
preferred time.
You have the key: *if* they decide. If it's decided for them, I find
it a problem. I don't like religious coercion, no matter which religion.
For those that claim thay it's "just a day off," why not require
Wednesdays instead?

I prefer Tuesdays, but you have the right idea.
