Yeah, I suppose there are people that have different "triggers"... I
guess blood is not one of mine, but I do have others...
I wasn't thinking about the blood per se, but more the "target" area.
This might seem like a digression, but:
A number of years ago, I saw the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman"
in the theater. There's one scene where the hero (Richard Gere) is
fighting with his drill sergeant (Morgan Freeman, I believe) and
gets kicked full in the crotch. Most men in the theater seemed to
involuntarily wince, double over, or otherwise react.
It's that vicarious sensitivity which I suspect comes into play. I'd
bet that some men just don't feel comfortable bringing a sharp knife
close to a set of (male) genitalia.
You have a point, although we often do things we are uncomfortable
with
especially when we are doing it for the right reasons.
some may be doing the brit milah with mixed feelings,
Why mixed feelings on that? It's a win win....
If you're doing it because you *have* to, rather than completely
willingly. Because while you know it should be done you don't want
to be the one responsible. Because you think you might be causing
your son pain. Because if it weren't for tradition you'd be against
circumcision. I could probably keep going.
Why would anyone be against circumcision? It is a no brainer to me.
or perhaps other reasons.
I would think there would be a bonding thing going on there.
I can just imagine the conversation 21 years hence over a couple of
beers. I'll spare you those mental images, though.
I never had a conversation with my parents about it...However, I could
imagine
that I would be upset with them if it wasn't done.
When I chose to do it, the reaction was almost entirely negative:
"how could you do that to your son?"
I have a few good answers for that, and YOU have answers on top of
those.
and the like. My response:
"If he's going to be angry at someone for doing that, I want him to
know who that was."
Like I said, I would be upset if I didn't have it done.
